The atmospheric bits plod along in a minimalist, droning kind of way and the action is exciting, but simplistic synthetic percussion. That's pretty much it in the invention stakes. Not exactly art, but exciting enough and with a quite ferocious and chaotic finale. However, those moments aside, little of any interest happens until Race Against the Sun which introduces some heavy drum funk and plenty of menacing synth choir and brass, sort of Hans Zimmer meets David Arnold meets techno. Was it a Dream? is a good opener and gentle moments such as Elegy work nicely. Graeme Revell delivers the goods in the film, but it isn't the type of music that functions well as an album. This kind of film doesn't need anything notable in the music department plenty of perfunctory atmospheric music for the opening, then building tension and then a bit of action at the denouement. So frustrating when an equally good film could have been made and have some grounding in reality (if you are sad enough to want to know more, mail me).
A total eclipse of 3 suns at once is nigh on impossible and the ecology of the planet is totally and utterly implausible. The premise is a bit daft (aren't they all?), but rather annoyingly, it could have been along the same lines using entirely realistic science. Aside from the up and coming Vin Diesel, it stars no big names, but still did moderately well and furthered the argument that Hollywood has simply been dressing up B-movies with an A-list budget and when it makes a throwaway popcorn flick for its own sake, the results are often far more satisfying. Brad Dourif - Jennifer Tilly - Billy Boyd - RedmanĮscape from L.A.David Twohy's B-movie sci-fi, horror flick was a gallant example of using a modest budget to turn out a decently exciting sub-Aliens style action film. The offspring of the evil pair, Glen, is voiced by Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd. Elsewhere, Tiffany finds that she will be played by Jennifer Tilly in their movie and doesn't hesitate to let her son in on their family's most cherished tradition -killing sprees. Far from diving into doting fatherhood, Chucky is seriously disappointed in his son's lack of inherent evil and tries his best to impart his vast knowledge of all things malevolent before Glen becomes some sort of do-gooder. After hearing the news of a film being made about his parents' murderous legacy, Glen sets off for Hollywood, where he promptly brings Chucky and Tiffany back to life.
